The Earth Haven Residents allowed us to visit their EcoVillage located near Asheville, North Carolina.   In all my travels, I have never seen a community that lives off the grid so well.  No one did without...computers were aplenty. This Ecovillage utilizes Permaculture, composting, composting toilets, recycled grey water, solar panels and too many things to list in this space alloted.

The house we stayed in was a 3 story house called the A & A. This house was built using recycled shipping crates, recycled windows and other items. The crates were rescued from a local company that was burning them as a means of disposal. I was told that other houses used this same material.

This community uses composting toilets, which consist of many versions of a large bucket, a brown paperbag and saw dust. Here is the piece of information that amazed me...there was very little odor.

This is a sorting house.  This is located next to the community kitchen.  They were harvesting garlic at the time of our visit.

The beauty of this EcoVillage is beyond words.  Earl and I recommend Earth Haven as a learning experience and a healing sanctuary.
